Thanks to an Internet reader, I have uncovered information about the new wireless modem for the Pocket PC. Designed by NextCell Incorporated, the Pocket Spider is a Type I wireless Compact Flash card that houses a 19.2kbps CDPD (v1.1) wireless modem. The device has its own Lithium Ion battery, so it does not drain the Pocket PC power supply and is reportedly enough for 8 hours of normal usage. In addition, the Pocket Spider supports an optional GPS tracking system, so that you can monitor the location of the device wirelessly and use it with mapping software.
What is truly amazing is that the Pocket Spider has all of the installation files and the software application burned on the CF card. Simply insert the card into your Pocket PC and the driver and program are automatically installed -no desktop computer required.
